National Theater of Costa Rica

Construction for The National Theater of Costa Rica started in 1891 and was completed by 1897. The theater was designed by Ruy Cristoforo Molinari. The purpose for building the theater was to show the culture and success of Costa Rica. The first day it was open they had a performance of Faust by Johann Wolfgang. The theater is known as the finest building in San Jose. After an earthquake devastated the country in 1991, Nicolás Chavarría re-designed it and it was completely renovated in 1993.
